Food allergies and sensitivities can frequently aggravate health problems and often those affected may not realize their health may improve substantially with some relatively simple dietary modifications. Some estimates suggest that these reactions may affect up to 20% of the population.
At The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa we have come to appreciate the importance of food allergy testing, evaluation and treatment.
We go beyond straightforward skin prick blood testing for reactions to foods such as peanuts or dairy. These classic IgE immune tests are valuable for immediate or acute allergic reactions, but may not provide a complete diagnostic for delayed type hypersensitivity that may be mediated by the IgG immune system subclass.
Many experts believe that close to 80% of people with marked food sensitivity problems deal with delayed symptoms that stem from a subset of the immune system called IgG.
These food sensitivities can take 72 hours to develop and have been associated with ongoing fatigue, mental focusing difficulties, attention deficit disorder, chronic irritable bowel syndrome, chronic infections and inflammation, joint pain, and even hormone imbalances.
At The Guyer Institute, we frequently work with Alletess Labs and their state-of-the-art regimens to get patients tested for reactions to as many as 96 different common foods. It is critical to know the full range of possibilities in order to rule out those not involved in negative health consequences.
“It is amazing just how prevalent significant food sensitivity is in the general population,” said Dale Guyer, MD, founder of The Guyer Institute and Synergy Spa. “There is no one size fits all allergy problem or test – we see remarkable differences among people based on body chemistry, stress levels, and organic responses that you can’t identify until you remove that food from the diet.”
Guyer says that variations of foods within dairy, eggs, glutens, cheeses, soy and some fruits can cause a sharp sensitivities that contribute to serious conditions.
Testing we call for can lead our experts to recommend changes in diet – some subtle, some significant – that may cause a decrease in headaches and migraines, weight loss, enhanced metabolism, enhanced functioning of the immune system, less GI disturbance, diminished irritable bowel syndrome, a decrease in pain, and improved neuro-cognitive function.
“Knowledge is power, “ Guyer says. “The studies we generate for patients give us ammunition to stimulate better health and quality of life.”
The Guyer Institute is also on the forefront of using herbal or natural antihistamine remedies for immediate allergic responses.
We utilize treatments that our expertise and experience tell us are most likely to work. Food allergies and sensitivities can inflict a damaging toll, and we’re here to help tackle these health effects with you.
