Oxygen is our lifeblood, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may improve a number of serious health conditions.
At The Guyer Institute, we offer HBOT to patients seeking the latest treatments to improve their lives. Many of our patients use hyperbaric oxygen therapy for chronic fatigue. In addition, they may use HBOT to boost healing from injuries, to improve normal brain functioning after a concussion, or to accelerate healing from a surgery or procedure.
Inflammation often causes a decreased blood supply in the affected area. Additionally, a lack of circulation often leads to decreased oxygen levels. Proper healing from a trauma or injury cannot occur without appropriate oxygen levels in the cells. Thus, in many cases, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can provide this extra oxygen to help healing occur naturally.
How HBOT Works:
In normal air, the oxygen level is 21%. Alternatively, at The Guyer Institute, HBOT allows patients to be in a 100% oxygenated environment. As a result, this increased concentration allows the lungs to gather more oxygen. Furthermore, as this oxygen is carried throughout the body, it can stimulate the release of substances called growth factors, which help promote healing.
When you’re in the chamber, you feel it fill up with air. Patients feel a bit of pressure, similar to taking off or landing in an airplane. During treatment, many people lie quietly and meditate, read, or even sleep on the plush pad.
Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy:
HBOT can benefit patients in a number of ways. For instance, it can:
- Enhance cellular renewal
- Support growth of new blood vessels and tissue
- Decrease swelling and inflammation
- Fight infections and boost the immune system
- Help metabolize some toxins
Things to Keep in Mind:
Prospective patients should know that a staff member is there during the treatments to monitor them. In addition, patients can be in constant view and communication. Before having hyperbaric oxygen therapy at The Guyer Institute, we carefully go over your medical history and ask you to undergo a physical.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy continues to show positive results for a variety of different conditions. We can tell you more about those in your consultation. It’s not surprising that boosting oxygen levels offers these natural healing effects. At the Guyer Institute, we’re always moving forward to maximize our patients’ health and well-being.
