Enhancing Mood

We all want to enhance our mood, but stress, fatigue, poor nutrition, a sedentary lifestyle, among other things, can greatly affect our mood and our day to day lives. There are many things that can easily be done to improve mood. Eating a well-balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, getting plenty of rest, being active each day, and trying to get a few minutes of sunlight everyday can go a long way in making you feel your best!

There are also nutritional supplements that can stimulate serotonin and dopamine levels, improve brain function, and increase energy. SAMe boosts dopamine levels, and in a major trial was shown to be beneficial for people who failed to respond to traditional antidepressant therapy. Research has shown that EPA/DHA (Omega-3 fish oil) decreases anxiety, improves seasonal deficiency disorder, and decreases stress responders in the brain. Adding a B Complex supplement to your diet may significantly improve your mood since the b vitamins are critical for the product of serotonin in the brain. Our bodies are unable to store B vitamins and many medications deplete them, so we must get them from our diet and supplementation. Vitamin B deficiency can lead to depression, mood swings, listlessness, and unfounded anger. Another important vitamin in mood enhancement is Vitamin D3. Vitamin D helps the brain produce dopamine and serotonin. Low levels have been associated with depression and chronic fatigue. Increasing your levels through sun exposure and supplementation can help increase energy and stabilize mood.

The staff at The Guyer Institute is here to help make a positive difference in the daily lives of our patients and customers. We have a knowledgeable and friendly pharmacy staff to assist you and answer any questions you may have regarding our nutritional supplements, and to help determine which supplements are right for you.
